It is usually a silk lining but can also be used for t-shirts, lampshades, summer blouses or very light lingerie The word "habotai" is derived from the Japanese language and means "soft as down." Habotai silk is made from the fibers of the silkworm, which are harvested and then spun into thread. The threads are then woven into a plain weave fabric that is characterized by its smooth and shiny surfaceThis white silk habotai is a fine, smooth, breathable fabric, pleasant against the skin, that holds its shape fairly well. Like other kinds of silks, habotai comes in a variety of weights (thicknesses) which is measured in mommes (abbreviated mm). A lightweight and sheer habutai silk might be 8 mommes ("8mm"); a 19mm habotai is considered quite thick.
